AICA Atlanta’s Top Five Tips For A Fantastic Summer

May 2, 2016

The Summer time is almost here again, and our Chiropractors at AICA Atlanta want to make sure that you can enjoy the clear blue skies while staying healthy.

Although we typically treat musculoskeletal conditions like neck and back pain, we are still very interested in helping you feel and perform at your very best overall!

Staying Healthy This Summer

The months between June and September are not only a very good time to enjoy the outdoors and all of the great events taking place throughout the city, but they also present an opportunity to take new steps toward a healthier you.

Consider the following five tips our Chiropractors recommend for having fun and staying healthy.

Visit Your Local Farmer’s Market

Taking a stroll down to your local farmer’s market is a sure way to guarantee that you are eating chemical food that is packed rich with nutrients and vitamins.

Local produce not only costs less, but it is also proven to help significantly:

  • Boost your immune system
  • Stabilize your mood
  • Control your weight
  • Regulate blood pressure
  • Maintain healthy cholesterol levels

Get Plenty of Water Each Day

For patients who suffer from some chronic joint pain, try going for a swim. Research shows that swimming exposes your body to the lowest amount of impact, while also providing the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to relieving joint pressure, increasing your endurance, and strengthening your heart.

Whether working or playing outside, make sure that you have plenty of water nearby to stay hydrated. Water naturally improves muscle function, helps regulate body temperature, and helps remove harmful toxins.

Get Plenty of Vitamin D

Vitamin D is one of the essential vitamins your body needs to support your immune system and the health of your bones.

Receiving plenty of sunlight, while wearing some light sunscreen, is known to also help:

  • Fend off depression
  • Fight cancer
  • Correct or heal particular dermatological conditions

Exercise, Exercise, Exercise

The summer’s beautiful weather virtually eliminates any excuse for not getting plenty of exercise. While you will want to avoid physical activity between the hours of 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., when the temperature is at its peak, you will want to look for opportunities to go for a hike, join a recreational sports team, or ride your bike through Piedmont Park.

Try To Relax and Enjoy Yourself

Giving your body a break is an excellent way to allow your sore muscles, anxiety, or stress to dissipate. Chronic stress is one of the worst things for your health because it can essentially affect your physical and mental welfare.

Pick up a new book, treat yourself to a Chiropractic adjustment, or ask one of our Chiropractors for advice on how to unwind at the end of the day.
