Broken Bone Treatment

When you woke up this morning, you weren’t expecting to break a bone. If you’ve been in an auto accident and are suffering from a fractured bone, you need to call AICA’s bone treatment specialists now.

What To Do About Your Broken Bone Right Now

Anytime there is a crack or break in one of your bones, it’s called a fracture. Like most accidents, the primary cause is a mishap at home. But automotive accidents are also a heavy dealer of fractures, and if you’ve been in one, you may be eligible to have your medical expenses fully covered by the at-fault insurance company so it never hurts to call AICA, even if you don’t have insurance.

First Aid

  • Don’t move the bone or affected limb
  • If the person MUST be moved to safety and the head or neck are affected, take ahold of the clothing, feet or belt and move gently.
  • Use ice-packs to help reduce swelling.
  • Help the person avoid shock by laying flat with feet elevated to 12 inches, and keep warm with a blanket. But do not move a person to this position if the injury is to the head or neck.
  • If there is a fracture and open wound, clean with water and apply gentle pressure to reduce bleeding.

Fractures: Who Is Most At Risk

Many children suffer a broken bone sometime in their pre-adolescent career. So do older people 65 years of age and up, who are most likely to fracture their hips, spine and legs. Finally, healthy people who engage in sports and outdoor activities can be prone to injurious breaks; if not dealt with promptly with proper setting, casting and healing, these fissure points can lead to pain and complications later in life.

How Do I Know It’s Broken?

The shin bone is the most fractured bone in the leg. But the symptoms can range from a red, bruised and swelling leg that’s painful to put weight on, all the way to a compound-fracture with bone piercing out of the skin.
Here is a list of the most common symptoms:

  • Bruising or inflammation around the fracture
  • A lot of pain that worsens when you move
  • Loss of feeling in the affected area, or you experience tingling
  • It’s difficult or impossible to move your limb
  • You see a disfigured bone structure under the skin or strangely angled joint.
  • You see bloody skin broken open and a bone sticking out.
