A Brief History of Chiropractic Care

LinkedInFacebookInstagramXPinterestYoutube

The chiropractic profession is becoming increasingly popular, and patients are beginning to choose this treatment option more frequently for a variety of issues. Our Atlanta chiropractors use spinal adjustments and manipulations to ease pain and promote overall wellness without the use of drugs. To better understand this field, it is beneficial to look back at its history.

Background

The field of chiropractic therapy was founded in 1895, and its early philosophy was focused on spiritualism, naturalism, and vitalism. Daniel David (D.D.) Palmer is credited with being the founder, although its philosophy was quite similar to the principles of osteopathy developed by Andrew Still. However, Palmer described the relationship between spinal manipulation and the nervous system as a principle in which modern chiropractic still relies. Palmer also founded the Palmer School of Chiropractic and this institution has continued to serve as one of the nation’s most prominent chiropractic colleges.

During the 20th century, the field of chiropractic began to receive legal recognition across the country, and this support then grew throughout the rest of the world. Studies from New Zealand, Canada, and other parts of the world support the cost effectiveness and efficiency of chiropractic care. Additionally, chiropractors around the globe have become committed to using non-invasive treatment methods to relieve a variety of ailments. Chiropractic in Georgia

It is important to discuss the role of Dr. Sid E. Williams in the history of chiropractic in Georgia. A student at the Palmer School of Chiropractic, Dr. Williams was one of Georgia’s most famous advocates of the chiropractic method of healing. Founder of the Georgia Council of Chiropractic (GCC), he was also the founder of Life Chiropractic (now Life University), which became the largest college for chiropractic in the world. Although, Dr. Williams passed away in December 2012 due to complications from pneumonia, his legacy as being a major pioneer in the field of chiropractic care continues to live on.

Yesterday was my last day at AICA College Park since my accident in December, there is so much to say about the people who work here and the level of customer service, care, attention, friendliness, and overall amazing atmosphere that they provide. Location is perfect in College Park, right off the highway and in a small plaza with plenty of parking. The entire staff, from the front desk girls, to the physical therapy girls, to the chiros, and the medical team are AMAZING! I feel like I just lost my friends not being able to visit them twice a week every week. I will definitely miss coming here. All the smiles and warm welcomes received. The physical therapy - asking about my day, if everything is okay and helping my back and neck get better. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Hector as my chiropractor, he is awesome, was very helpful in the healing process and also a native Spanish speaker which is a plus for those of us who do speak Spanish. Before coming to AICA, I tried another injury clinic in ATL and walked out after 5 mins - so impersonal and cold. I am so glad that I found AICA in College Park. Trust me, if you are injured and need some healing and TLC you NEED to come to this clinic! Highly recommend to everyone. Thank you again to the guys and girls at AICA - xo Ms. Colon
