What Is A Subluxation?

LinkedInFacebookInstagramXPinterestYoutube

Most residents throughout the greater Atlanta region have heard of the term subluxation, but what does it mean? A subluxation refers to situations where a specific portion of the vertebrae moves out of its natural position and adds pressure to the spinal nerves. When this occurs, the communication between your body and brain diminishes, which causes a variety of disruptions that affect areas like your coordination and immune response.

Causes of Subluxations

There are three primary causes of subluxations that stem from physical, chemical, and emotional triggers.

Physical Triggers

Physical triggers are associated with gradual stress and pressure that develops from our natural environment. Maintaining poor posture while sitting down at work, using non-ergonomic equipment, and constantly repeating the same actions all contribute to subluxations. Patients also develop subluxations as a result of immediate physical trauma like a car accident.

Chemical Triggers

Personal diet and environmental factors like pollution can cause misalignments in the spine. Chemicals and toxins that are ingested through particular foods, beverages, or the air are harmful to the body as they limit your ability to function properly.

Emotional Triggers

Emotional stress can have a profound impact on your health and cause subluxations to appear. Studies show that emotional stress is correlated with your physical health and when one’s personal stress levels exceed a certain level, you can experience a series of negative reactions such as anxiety, high-blood pressure, and subluxations.

Support A Healthy Central Nervous System

The central nervous system allows you to adapt to the various stimuli that exist within our every day environment. To maintain a healthy life, it is important to take proactive measures that help support a healthy nervous system and keep the spine free of misalignments. Subluxations create a variety of complications and should be treated by an experienced Chiropractor to avoid particular dysfunctions that impact your overall health.

If you experience sudden, lingering pain, a gradual decline in your health, or you’re simply not feeling like your normal self, it could be connected to the presence of subluxations. Contact our Atlanta Chiropractors to schedule a free consultation to learn more about our approach to treating misalignments in the spine or setup an examination for immediate relief.
