The winter cold and flu season are right around the corner, and the Chiropractors at AICA Atlanta can help you avoid getting sick!

Chiropractic Care for Cold & Flu Symptoms

The common cold and flu season tends to set in around November and can stick around until May depending on the year.

While some years are worse than others as far as how many people become sick, there are some steps you can take to help avoid developing some seasonal illness.

The Difference Between Cold and Flu Sickness

Understanding whether you are sick from a cold or flu can be difficult based on the fact that both conditions contain similar symptoms.

If you are sick with the flu, you are more likely to experience: body aches, dry coughs, significant fatigue, and recurring fevers.

If you happen to catch a common cold, your symptoms will fall on the side of sneezing, congestion, and suffering from a runny nose.

It’s important to know that both conditions are contagious, should not last more than one week, and are highly treatable.

Viral vs. Bacterial Infections

Bacteria and viruses grow and spread at a much higher rate during the winter than any other time of the year.

Bacteria tend to be harmless where viruses cause a broad range of harmful diseases.

Viruses attack your healthy, normal cells and use them to expand into new factions. Most common viruses fall into the cold and flu category and can be treated with the use of antibiotics.

Bacterial infections speak to conditions like strep throat and urinary tract infections. These type of infections can also be treated with antibiotics, although more forms of bacteria are beginning to become resistant to such medications.

Other common infections like sinusitis or pneumonia can be bacterial or viral depending on the circumstances and environment

Chiropractic Treatment for Cold and Flu Symptoms

Although most people tend to rely on over-the-counter medications to numb their cold and flu symptoms, there are more practical treatment solutions that exist.

The lymphatic system consists of a network of organs, lymph vessels, lymph ducts, and lymph nodes. When each component within this scheme can operate correctly, your body can pass white blood cells from your tissue into your bloodstream.

This type of functioning is a highly important part of your immune system as your lymph nodes create immune cells, which help fight off bacterial and viral infections.

The connections between your musculoskeletal, central nervous, and lymphatics systems can all be supported through the regular use of Chiropractic Adjustments, which remove subluxations that block movement in your spine.

When your internal systems are completely of such barriers, you can transfer vital nutrients and white blood cells to infected or damaged areas of your body.

With Chiropractic Adjustments, you can treat the cause of your condition without having to rely on medications that may carry harmful side-effects or diminish your ability to remain alerted.

Yesterday was my last day at AICA College Park since my accident in December, there is so much to say about the people who work here and the level of customer service, care, attention, friendliness, and overall amazing atmosphere that they provide. Location is perfect in College Park, right off the highway and in a small plaza with plenty of parking. The entire staff, from the front desk girls, to the physical therapy girls, to the chiros, and the medical team are AMAZING! I feel like I just lost my friends not being able to visit them twice a week every week. I will definitely miss coming here. All the smiles and warm welcomes received. The physical therapy - asking about my day, if everything is okay and helping my back and neck get better. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Hector as my chiropractor, he is awesome, was very helpful in the healing process and also a native Spanish speaker which is a plus for those of us who do speak Spanish. Before coming to AICA, I tried another injury clinic in ATL and walked out after 5 mins - so impersonal and cold. I am so glad that I found AICA in College Park. Trust me, if you are injured and need some healing and TLC you NEED to come to this clinic! Highly recommend to everyone. Thank you again to the guys and girls at AICA - xo Ms. Colon
