How to Avoid A Mid-Day Slump | AICA AtlantaAs the day goes on and you hit that point in the afternoon right before lunch where you don’t think you can make it another minute, what makes you keep going? How do you keep going? However the most important question is: why this slump occurs and how can you avoid it?

Our team of Atlanta chiropractors have some great tips to help get you through your afternoon slump and send you smooth sailing into the later parts of your day feeling refreshed.

Give Yourself A Boost of Energy

So, everyone knows some smells have a way of peaking your interest whether it be good or bad so use that sense to help perk you up! If you are feeling down, try smelling a grapefruit as the citrus can help awaken your body. Essential oils are also effective tools as long as the smell of citrus blend is there to help perk you up.

Now, you’ve made it to lunch but what happens when the food you’re eating is the root of the problem. Many people pack sandwiches for lunch which can be quick and easy as well as fill you up but the bread can leave you feeling tired and worn down. When consuming a large amount of carbs in the afternoon the body cannot process the carbs as quickly and this can cause the body to become tired.

Get up and move!

Many Americans have a job where they sit most of the day and this can make people exhausted if not adding in movement breaks throughout your day. When sitting for long periods of time the metabolism decreases but when you begin walking your heart rate goes up just a bit, your energy level will rise and you will begin to feel happier. If the option is there to take a walk outside, Vitamin D is good for the body and subjecting yourself to a little sunlight could be great for the body.

Drink plenty of water

A great way to boost your energy is to hydrate! When the body does not have enough water intake, the brain does not work as effectively as it should due to the lack of oxygen to the brain and this can result in fatigue. When you’re getting tired at work, get up take a walk and head to the water cooler!

Maintain correct posture

Posture, posture, posture! When the body is constantly slumping over the spine is being strained and the muscles around the spine are having to work extra hard which can deplete your energy supply. Shoulders should always be back which force you to pick your head up creating a nice line for the spine.
